• About the procedure

Understanding
general & preventive dentistry.

General and preventive care brings together examinations, appropriate cleaning and an individual plan for maintaining your teeth and gums. A check-up is a chance to discuss sensitivity, changes, home-care challenges and older dental work—not only to remove stains or polish teeth.

The photographs show real people and teeth in illustrative stock dental-care settings. They are not Lake Eola Dental patients, staff, premises or treatment results, and do not document this exact procedure.

• Your options

Everyday care.
A more complete picture.

Whether you are keeping up with routine visits or returning after time away, we begin with where you are now. Mention sensitivity, bleeding gums, persistent bad breath or any change you have noticed.

(01)

Comprehensive exams

Your examination considers your teeth, gums, oral tissues and bite, together with your health history and concerns. Images are recommended when needed to answer a clinical question—not automatically at every visit.

Professional cleanings

Professional cleaning addresses deposits that home care may not remove. We assess your gum health first and explain the type of cleaning recommended, along with practical guidance for care between visits.

Periodontal care

Gum disease may require a different approach from a routine cleaning. Following assessment, Dr. Ho can discuss periodontal treatment such as scaling and root planing when appropriate, plus an individualized maintenance plan.

Oral cancer screening

An oral tissue examination looks for changes that may need closer evaluation. Tell Dr. Ho about a persistent sore, unusual patch, lump or other concern. Screening is not a diagnosis; further assessment or referral may be recommended.

• The process

General & preventive dentistry.
Step by step.

A typical care sequence is outlined below. Your examination determines the treatment, number of appointments and any need for specialist care.

Review your history

Discuss health changes, medications, symptoms and previous dental treatment. Let the team know about anxiety or sensitivity.

Examine and record

Assess teeth, gums, oral tissues and bite, with imaging or other records when clinically indicated.

Provide the right care

Choose cleaning and preventive measures that fit your condition. Periodontal disease may require a different approach from a routine cleaning.

Plan your next visit

Discuss the findings, home care and a recall interval based on your oral health and risk factors.

• Planning & aftercare

The details
that matter.

A useful first visit

Bring your medication list, relevant dental records and questions. Tell us if you are establishing care, returning after a gap or concerned about a specific tooth.

An individual schedule

The appropriate interval for examinations, imaging and cleaning varies. It should reflect your needs rather than assuming every person requires exactly the same schedule.

This page is general patient information, not a diagnosis or an individual treatment plan. Ask the practice about instructions specific to your care.

• Making a decision

Compare your options.
Plan your next step.

Use these questions when discussing general & preventive dentistry with Dr. Ho. Your examination and priorities guide your individual plan.

Options to discuss

An examination helps distinguish routine prevention from care for an existing problem. Your home-care routine, cavity risk and gum health inform recommendations. A preventive cleaning and treatment for established gum disease should not be treated as interchangeable services.

Visits and timing

The findings guide which records, cleaning or follow-up are appropriate and whether treatment is scheduled separately. Ask how future visits should be timed for your needs instead of assuming every patient needs the same interval.

What shapes the estimate

Request a breakdown of the examination, any recommended imaging, cleaning and additional services. Check your plan’s eligibility and frequency rules; the term “preventive” does not by itself establish what your policy will pay.

• Questions

Questions about
general & preventive dentistry.

Do I need X-rays at every check-up?

Not automatically. Your history, findings and risk influence when imaging is appropriate. Ask what the image is intended to help assess.

Is a check-up the same as a cleaning?

No. The examination assesses oral health, while cleaning addresses deposits according to the care needed. Both may be part of a visit, but the services are distinct.

What if I have bleeding gums or a toothache?

Tell the team when booking. A symptom-focused or periodontal assessment may be needed rather than treating the visit as a routine preventive appointment.
