• About the procedure

Understanding
restorative dentistry.

Restorative dentistry repairs damaged teeth and replaces missing teeth to support everyday function. A filling, crown, bridge or implant-supported restoration serves a different purpose. The examination helps identify what can be preserved, what support is available and which options fit your situation.

• Your options

Care that restores.
Options that make sense.

A chipped tooth, a worn restoration or a missing tooth can call for different approaches. Explore the options we may discuss after an examination.

(01)

Tooth-colored fillings

For selected areas of decay or damage, a tooth-colored filling may restore the affected part of a tooth. Dr. Ho considers the location, the remaining tooth structure and your bite before recommending a material or approach.

Dental crowns

A crown covers a tooth when a filling alone may not provide the support it needs. We discuss preparation, materials, appearance and ongoing care. In-office CAD/CAM fabrication and same-day completion are available for suitable cases—not every crown or appointment.

Porcelain bridges

A bridge replaces a missing tooth or teeth using support from neighboring teeth or implants, depending on the plan. Dr. Ho assesses the supporting structures and explains the alternatives, cleaning needs and maintenance involved.

Dental implants

Implant treatment can be one option for replacing missing teeth. The plan considers your oral health, supporting bone, restoration and healing needs. We explain the stages, alternatives and expected follow-up before treatment begins.

• The process

Restorative dentistry.
Step by step.

A typical care sequence is outlined below. Your examination determines the treatment, number of appointments and any need for specialist care.

Understand the problem

Discuss symptoms, missing teeth or older dental work and review appropriate records.

Compare options

Explain the condition of the tooth or space, reasonable alternatives and the implications of delaying care.

Complete the planned care

Sequence the treatment around the clinical priorities, required fabrication and any coordinated specialist care.

Check function and maintain

Assess the bite and comfort, explain cleaning and arrange the follow-up appropriate for the restoration.

• Planning & aftercare

The details
that matter.

Preserve what is healthy

The amount of remaining tooth and its support help determine how much coverage or replacement is needed. A more extensive restoration is not automatically the right choice.

Materials and maintenance

The location, bite, appearance priorities and ability to clean influence planning. Every restoration needs care and may require repair or replacement over time.

This page is general patient information, not a diagnosis or an individual treatment plan. Ask the practice about instructions specific to your care.

• Making a decision

Compare your options.
Plan your next step.

Use these questions when discussing restorative dentistry with Dr. Ho. Your examination and priorities guide your individual plan.

Options to discuss

A damaged tooth and a missing tooth call for different comparisons. Fillings or crowns may restore suitable teeth; bridges, implants or removable options may replace missing teeth. The remaining support, gums, bite and ability to maintain the result shape the discussion.

Visits and timing

Care may begin with the most pressing problem and proceed through preparation, fabrication and fitting. Healing or specialist input can affect the sequence. Ask which stage restores function and whether temporary arrangements are part of the plan.

What shapes the estimate

Compare the complete plan, including any work needed to support a restoration and ongoing maintenance. If care is staged, ask for the estimate and expected insurance contribution at each stage so you can understand the proposed priorities.

• Questions

Questions about
restorative dentistry.

How do you decide between a filling and a crown?

The size of the defect, cracks, existing restorations and remaining tooth structure matter. Dr. Ho explains the findings and the suitable options.

Can treatment be completed in one day?

Some suitable restorations can be fabricated in-office with CAD/CAM. Other problems need staged care, laboratory work, healing or additional visits.

What should an estimate include?

Ask about the planned procedure, components, visits, alternatives and any separate treatment that may be needed. Coverage depends on your own insurance plan.
